Diagnosing Psychiatric Disorders: The Synchronization of DSM-5 and ICD-10-CM

Premiere Date: November 20, 2013 Expiration Date: November 20, 2014 Article Goal This article provides an overview of the changes in DSM-5 and a review of how DSM-5 relates to ICD-10-CM. Learning Objectives At the end of this article, readers should be able to: 1. Describe the relationship of DSM-5 and ICD-10-CM. 2. Recognize how DSM-5 can translate into changes in clinical practice. 3. Analyze how changes occurring in mental health might impact mental health records, regulatory policies, and reimbursement models. Target Audience This continuing medical education activity is intended for psychiatrists, psychologists, primary care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other health care professionals who seek to improve their care for patients with mental health disorders. Credit Information CME Credit (Physicians): This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of CME Outfitters, LLC, and Psychiatric Times.
